A journey through sound and structure.This is an informal lecture/demonstration and general overview of the physics of sound and musical instruments. What are the sources of sound, classification of instrument types (Hornbostel Sachs system), interactions of sound waves, travel with us to the speed of sound, understand the harmonic series, hear the overtones on aeolian harps, just intonation/Bach, etc. Discussion and demonstration of some fundamental concepts with the aim of discovering what makes music.This project is made possible, in part, with funds from Orange County Tourism and the County of Orange. | ||

Guitarist, Frank Kohl, began here in New York where he has performed for years. He studied with guitarist, Link Chamberland and graduated from Berklee College of Music. His first recording, Reform, The Frank Kohl Quartet, featured the great Bassist, Michael Moore.He then moved West to the San Francisco Bay area where he performed his music and was a member of Don McCaslin's Jazz/Salsa band, Warmth. In 1990, he moved to Seattle where he lives and performs today. His new CD, Coast to Coast, The Frank Kohl Quartet includes pianist and brother, Tom Kohl. Larry Kolker's songs emerge from American roots music but have a postmodern edge. Crossing folk, blues, pop, rock, soul, and jam-band, harmonized by his distinctive voice, his music has been called "urban country east-coast white-boy blues". A versatile guitar player and in demand on the blues harp, Larry has performed throughout the Northeast, the 2012 Montauk Music Festival, the Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg, and the Bob Dylan Festival at the Warwick Valley Winery. He is active in the Tribes Hill musical community.Larry's new 10-song CD, Awful Smart Man, was released in July 2012. He and Fred Gillen Jr. co-produced the album at Woody's House studio; it includes performances by pop folk trio the YaYas. The album reflects a journey of love, agony, discovery, acceptance and joy. | Ed Romanoff is the brother of renowned Folk icons Schooner Fare. He has performed with Pete Seeger, Christine Lavin, Buskin & Batteau, as well as singer-songwriter Kathy Leonardo and Grammy Award-winning vocalists New York Voices. An accomplished stage performer, Ed has several Broadway and Television credits and lists among his co-stars: Susan Anton, Harvey Fierstein, George Wendt, Kevin Meaney, Loretta Swit, Debby Boone, Vic Damone, Jack Jones, and Avery Schrieber. Starring roles include Max in The Producers, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, Al Jolson in Jolson: The Musical, and Captain Hook in Peter Pan. Television credits include featured roles on Rescue Me, Gossip Girl, TV LAND's Really Big Shows, Robert Klein Time, and Kid's Court.
