Conjunto Sazon was inspired by the music of Cuba and Puerto Rico. The band, a small conjunto with a huge sound, identifies with the rhythms and melodies of the Caribbean; Salsa, Son, Rumba, Bomba, Plena, as well as Merengue. The veteran musicians of this conjunto, to their credit, have performed and recorded with world renowned artists such as Celia Cruz, Pete "El Conde" Rodriquez, Eddie Palmieri, Monguito "el unico", los Kimbos, and the New Swing Sextet to name a few. Ted Daniel has performed and recorded with such music greats as Sonny Sharrock, Archie Shepp, Dewey Redman, Andrew Cyrille, Sam Rivers, Billy Bang and Henry Threadgill; has held workshops at Amherst, Bennington and Williams Colleges and the Univ. of Hosei in Tokyo, Japan; and has produced four albums under his own name. He is presently writing and performing with his new group, the International Brass and Membrane Corporation (IBMC), a quartet formed in 1998 to bring a contemporary reading to the classic Gennett recordings of King Oliver and his Creole Jazz Band.King Oliver was a cornet player, important in the shaping of jazz music. Frequently using timbre modifiers and renowned for his wa-wa effects, King Oliver hired a young Louis Armstrong to play second cornet for his band, mentored the young musician, and was a major influence in Armstrong's musical development. IBMC members are the highly accomplished Charles Burnham, violin, Jose Davila, tuba, Newman Baker, Trap drums. Admission $10 | ||
