Cole is the recipient of a Swing Journal Gold Disk award, and has won the NY Jazzmobile and Montreux Jazz Festival vocal competitions. She records for Motéma Music, NY. and Venus Records, Japan. Her eight recordings, which feature musical luminaries such as Fred Hersch, Eric Alexander, Matt Wilson, Harry Pickens, Don Braden and Pat LaBarbara, have received high praise in the jazz press and are spun on radio world-wide. In addition to her many performances at top jazz venues like Dizzy's Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Oak Room, Blues Alley, and Billboard Live, she's also performed at the Kennedy Center and been a featured soloist at Avery Fisher Hall with the NY Philharmonic Brass.

 Dr. Capers has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Mongo Santamaria, Tito Puente, Slide Hampton, Max Roach, and Paquito D'Rivera, among others; has recorded 5 albums: Portrait of Soul (Atlantic), Affirmation (KMA Arts), Come On Home (Columbia/Sony), Wagner Takes the 'A' Train (Elysium), and Limited Edition (VALCAP Records); and has appeared on numerous radio and television programs. She plays regularly at the Knickerbocker in Greenwich Village and Lenox Lounge in Harlem.
Dr. Capers has served on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music, and from 1987 to 1995 was chair of the Dept of Music and Art at Bronx Community College of CUNY, where she is now professor emeritus.
Her most noted compositions are Sing About Love, a critically acclaimed Christmas cantata produced by George Wein at Carnegie Hall; Sojourner, an operatorio based on the life of Sojourner Truth, performed by the Opera Ebony Company of NY; and Song of the Seasons, commissioned by the Smithsonian.

The Poughkeepsie Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild continues its 2012 coffeehouse series on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Unitarian Fellowship, South Randolph Ave., Poughkeepsie. The coffeehouse performances start at 7:30 pm with an open mic format followed by the featured performer, Melissa Holland.
Melissa Holland is a singer/songwriter, flutist, and keyboardist. In each song she tells a story - reflecting personal growth and change and evoking empathy, images and pathos. She does this with confessional, conversational and often humorous lyrics. Her style is a mixture of pop, folk, classical, sometimes even jazz and country; but somehow it is all part of who she is and the musical journey she takes you on. She has been compared style-wise to Carol King and Laura Nyro. Her voice is reminiscent of Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins: clear, honest and flexible; both ethereal and down to earth, as she puts it, "head in the clouds, feet on the ground".

 The band formed in 1999 and has been performing throughout Orange, Rockland and Sullivan counties since. It has seen many incarnations, but the current lineup, which includes Flood (guitars/vocals), Rich "The Dog" Walter (mandolin/guitar/vocals), Ed Rivera (percussion/vocals), Mike Tucciarone (bass/vocals), Rob Mandel (drums) and Bruce Stern (keyboards/vocals), has been together for five years.
The band plays jam band (Grateful Dead), reggae and classic rock songs but will perform jam band-specific or Grateful Dead-specific shows. Artists it will cover include the Allman Brothers Band, the Rolling Stones, the Who, Bob Marley, Tom Petty, the Beatles, Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan.

 Kathleen Parks is an eighteen year old Celtic/Irish fiddle player and vocalist. She has been playing since the age of five and has performed with Grammy-nominated and award winning artists. She is currently the fiddler of the renowned "John Whelan Band". Kathleen was the Grand Prize winner of the Berklee College of Music's "Cover Karmin Contest" (click on Kathleen's name above to see her video submission.)
This St. Patrick's Day, Kathleen will perform with vocalist Lindsey Webster, Connor Kennedy on guitar, Keith Slattery on piano, and Dan Hickey on drums.
The night will be filled with Jazz, Folk, Blues, and of course some fiery Irish fiddling!

Gordon Bok grew up around the boatyards of Camden, Maine. In his early years, he worked on a variety of vessels, from passenger schooners to yachts. He learned many tunes, sea songs, stories, legends and ballads from the people he worked with. Where he couldn't find songs that matched his experiences or needs, he began to write his own, and has kept up a lively flow of poems, songs, stories, choral and instrumental works. He has He has performed extensively in the United States, and in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.

Joshua Morris began performing classical music at an early age with his father, mother, brother and sister, he began performing around the south, and the Morris Family became well known for their beautiful Irish harmonies. Later, Joshua expanded his musical repertoire to include rock and roll, drawing on his classical and Irish background, and with his band Sinclair, released the album Stories of this Land in 2002. Joshua recorded and produced the 2004 Morris Family release Farewell to Summer.
After moving to Beacon, NY in 2008, Joshua has continued his musical ambitions, melding his voice, violin and guitar into a solo act adept in both faithful traditional tunes as well as improvised original work.
Joshua currently designs recording studios and other acoustically-sensitive spaces for Walters-Storyk Design Group in Highland, NY.

WSB is an incredible, world-class 18-piece Big Band featuring a full horn section with 5 sax's, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, and world-class drummer and bandleader Greg Westhoff. You'll never hear anything like it in a small venue anywhere in Westchester! The band performs classic Swing music, Sinatra, Broadway selections and songs from the '40's, '50's and beyond.
Greg has been playing drums for over 50 years. He has performed on the Tonight Show and is the drummer for the hit show "Family Guy". Greg was the drummer with Walter Murphy and the Big Apple Band, who's popular disco-era hit was " A Fifth of Beethoven". His Big Band has been together for 12 years, performing all over the tri -state area.

In August of 2008 we embarked on a joint venture with Buffy & Brian Gribbon of The High Falls Cafe. We called it Big Joe's Blues Party and we've been doing it twice a month ever since. If my math is correct that brings us to Blues Party #88 tomorrow night. The Gribbons and their staff and all of you folks have been incredibly supportive and have made this a wonderfully special event on so many levels...that we cannot thank you enough.
Most of you have heard by now that The High Falls Cafe will be moving to their new location at The Stone Dock Golf Course in a matter of weeks and we look forward to the dawn of an exciting new era there. But that makes Tuesday night the Last Go-Round for blues on the corner of Mohonk Road and Route 213. We hope you can come out and celebrate with us, and give the old place a rousing send off. We surely have had many great times there.
