New Paltz, NY   See Map
Sweet Clementines performs an ambitious collection of literate, lyrical (sm)art pop. Playful, irreverent, and musically sophisticated, this New Paltz-based band boasts an earthy and original sound. Their musical concoctions are inspired by the British Invasion, ‘60s psychedelia, Elvis Costello, Elliot Smith, and the Kinks. John Burdick, Paul Carroll, Chris Tanis, Jason Sarubbi, Matt Senzatimore and Marianne Tasick form a six-piece ensemble featuring vibraphone and violin on top of standard rock instrumentation. Singer-Songwriter
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
The New York Times called international recording artist Nenad Bach "a cross between Lou Reed and Elton John." Nenad has performed with Bono, The Edge, Luciano Pavarotti, Rick Danko and Richie Havens, among others. Nenad played at Woodstock in '94 and he recently completed a tour of Australia, Japan and China. Two of his albums reached #1 in Europe, and to date he has sold over 1 million records. His current CD, All I Want is Freedom, is a potent shot of rock infused with heart & soul, packed with provocative lyrics calling back the ethos of the sixties; unafraid to question, determined to seek answers, in a rousing call to action that electrifies, galvanizes, and at the same time mesmerizes.

He stands on stage holding his Martin OM 28, stomping his foot, singing superb songs about ruby red dresses, drunk roosters, ex-slaves, window washers, Polish Immigrants, Tinian Island, rutabagas and the cycles of life & death. He sings about the thread that runs through us all. Artful, intense, and often transcendent, imaginative, and extremely engaging — if you love a moving song and magical madness, Joe Crookston delivers it all….the music, the lyrics, the energy, and the passion for exceptionaly well written songs. He loves his audience, and it shows. Joe Crookston….Born and raised in rural Ohio, with Hungarian roots, Polkas Polkas…and eastern European food..A little bit of Gypsy soul in this guy…Whether it’s his hypnotic guitar sound, bubbling banjo, or short story lyrics, his music draws from his urban adventures and his rural Ohio roots, exuding a remarkable timeless quality. Haven’t seen him perform?? You’ll be glad you did.

Ablaye Cissoko and Volker Goetze had a serendipitous meeting during rehearsals of the African-European Jazz Orchestra in Saint-Louis, Senegal, where they'd been invited to open for the legendary Youssou N'Dour. Nominated for a 2009 Independent Music Award for Best Song, Cissoko and Goetze fuse the musical cultures of traditional Senegalese folk songs with western jazz in a profound and stirring musical relationship. Portions of the proceeds generated by the sales of their recording, SIRA, go to TOSTAN, a community-led organization benefiting African women's health and human rights.

Blues guitarist-singer Debbie Davies first gained widespread notice during her three years with the late Albert Collins' band, The Icebreakers. Her roles included solo & rhythm guitar, vocalist and guitar "duelist" with Collins, who called her "a great guitar player who sure can play the blues." She has worked with blues icons like B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Koko Taylor and John Mayall (who gave her a rare and unequivocal endorsement). Her gritty vocals and searing guitar work have drawn comparisons to Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

A funky night of original music
with Daphne Willis, featuring guests JP Patrick and Dave McDowell
Singer-Songwriter
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Daphne Willis is a young, fresh, inspired singer/songwriter who's been touring nationally to promote her latest CD, "Because I Can". Daphne's music has been met with critical acclaim. The title of Daphne's CD answers the question: "Why does she move from a saucy soul/funk gumbo to punchy pop/rock to VH1-ready piano balladry, all before the album's halfway mark?" Because she can. They're calling this CD "the defining work of a young artist who matters."

Tonight, Daphne will be joined by two musicians who are frequent performers at 12 Grapes, saxophonists JP Patrick and Dave McDowell. They'll be performing Daphne's original music, and we think it's going to be phenomenal!

We're honored that 12 Grapes is a stop on Daphne's national tour. If you love original music, great musicianship and outstanding vocals, do not miss this performance.

The first time they performed here, we were blown away. We play their CD on our house stereo, and people constantly ask us who they are. We must be falling in love with WeMustBe.

Singer Christine Dominguez co-authored this year's Grammy nominated hit song "Airplanes" by B.o.B and is collaborating with artists and producers in the Hip Hop/Urban community where her distinct and soulful vocals are in demand. T. Xiques started gigging as a drummer at age 15 and tours across the US, Canada, Europe and Malaysia with artists like Savoy Brown, Dr.Know and Daryl Jenifer (Bad Brains), Colin Hay and Brother, among others.

They call their sound "Organic Pop", a sound they created with their soulful vocals and an assortment of instruments, from piano and acoustic guitar to 5-string bass and cajon drum. We're really looking forward to the return of WeMustBe.

Detroit Americana duo perform original and traditional music
with Lac La Belle
Americana, Folk/Traditional, and Acoustic
Spotty Dog Books and Ale
440 Warren Street
Hudson, NY   See Map
Americana duo Lac La Belle, of Detroit, Michigan, juxtaposes the early decades of recorded rural American music with decaying Rustbelt aesthetic. A tradition is re-imagined- or maybe just resumed- in the ‘future-rustic’ swirl of accordion, ukulele, mandolin, banjo, resonator guitar and harmonizing vocals. The instrumentation echos another era, but is employed for a music of now.

This will be their third tour through the East Coast since 2010, now traveling in support of their newly released EP, "Bring on the Light". Their newest release boasts six original works, performed with a variety of instruments from accordion to banjitar. Each song presents a melodic tale, be it intimate anecdote or tunes on their hometown Detroit, "Bring on the Light" captures the drifting spirit of early America.

HOLLY NEAR

Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Holly Near is a skilled performer and an outspoken ambassador for peace who brings to the stage an integration of world consciousness, spiritual discovery, and theatricality. Near's professional career began with numerous performances in film, television and a run in the Broadway production of Hair. Torn between a career as an actor or a singer, Holly chose to pursue her love of music, especially that music which articulated the social conditions of the world community. In 1972, Holly Near was one of the first women to create an independent record company. Near's vision was to promote and produce music by politically conscious artists from around the world. Often cited as one of the founders of the "women's music" movement, Holly not only led the way for outspoken women into the music world, but also worked for peace and multicultural consciousness. Near has released 26 recordings of her own, including the seminal Imagine My Surprise, and performs as a guest on many others.

Like her famous brother James, folksinger Kate Taylor has shared a love for music since she could remember. Growing up, Taylor shared a dual musical heritage with brothers James, Livingston, Hugh, and Alex, who all became accomplished in music. Because of her Southern upbringing, Taylor music is deeply rooted in the region's soul, gospel, and rockabilly sounds, while the stylings of literate folk, pop, and Appalachian music completed that family's musical legacy. "I've been influenced by many musical traditions and they all weave through what I do," explained Taylor on her official website. "My music has at various times been described as pop, folk, rock, rockabilly, country, gospel and R&B. Growing up in the South, I was exposed to a wonderful diversity of musical styles."
