 Renowned musician and Hudson Valley bandleader the late Ron Finck will be remembered in a memorial jazz concert to benefit a Rondout Valley High School scholarship
in his name at at the Rosendale Café, 434 Main Street, Rosendale on Sunday May 1 at 3pm. The day’s ensemble will feature an incredible group of jazz musicians including Ron's son, professional guitarist Matthew Finck, who will be joined on-stage by several of Ron's former bandmates, including Roswell Rudd on trombone, Mike Kull on piano, Ed Xiques on Saxophone, and Gene Randolph on drums. These musicians shared the bandstand with Ron throughout his career as a freelance jazz musician in nightclubs, concerts and tours throughout the world. Matt Finck has also enlisted his contemporaries Greg Glassman on trumpet,
T. Xiques on percussion, and Lew Scott on bass to join the players for this special performance. Plus, Ron's granddaughter Dustine Finck will be joining the band on saxophone for several numbers.

The group features Matt Munisteri on guitar, Jon-Erik Kellso on trumpet, Danton Boller on bass, Joe Barbato on accordian — and a drummer to be named later.
Bandleader and guitarist Matt Munisteri is a Brooklyn native who grew up as almost assuredly the only bluegrass banjo player on his block. His lifelong interest in early American music led him from Country and Ragtime guitar, through Blues, to Tin Pan Alley and Jazz – all by the eighth grade. His own compositions and playing reflect this life-long devotion to the history of American Popular song – linking rural and urban, long gone and contemporary.

 The group features some of the community’s most respected musicians, and performs regularly in the New York tri-state area; venues range from local clubs and cafes to outdoor festivals. On keyboards, rhythm guitar and vocals is the legendary Jon Cobert, a five-time Grammy-nominated musician who was, most famously, in John Lennon’s band during the 1970’s; more recently Jon has performed with Bruce Springsteen and Dave Matthews. On guitar and vocals is Chris Fox, who has opened for nationally-known acts in Manhattan such as Dave Crosby. Chris also writes the band’s original songs. On bass and vocals is Tony Tino, who has toured and recorded with Gavin DeGraw, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Clay Aiken, Ronnie Spector, and many others. Anchoring the groove is drummer Denny McDermott, who has toured with David Johansen and recorded with Donald Fagen of Steely Dan. |
