Blues
Mohonk Mountain House
Mountain Rest Road
New Paltz, NY   See Map
WDST's Big Joe Fitz hosts year four of BLUES ON THE MOUNTAIN.

Davis’ folksy and humble stage presence, combined with his humorous monologues, made one feel that this was not a concert, but rather, an impromptu performance on a front porch down in some southern swamp. Indeed, at times Davis had the audience singing, clapping and stomping their feet."

With the encouragement of Aoife Clancy, daughter of Bobby Clancy from the acclaimed Clancy Brothers, Kath moved to the US to pursue a career in the folk scene. She now performs with a project called The Jammin' Divas with Aoife Clancy, Becky Chace and Hadar Noiberg exploring the richness of folk music through fusing three different cultures from Ireland, USA and Australia.

A Musical Performance Showcase Every Other Tuesday Night

The Rosendale Cafe has been bringing notable performances to the area for 18 years. This more humble opportunity for local performances started with a very successful run of the Community Music Night hosted by Mark Bernard. Hosts John Wirtz, Carla Rozman, Wayne Montecalvo, and now John P. Hughes have taken it over under the name Singer-Songwriter Tuesdays, and the series has run since the fall of 2007.Also appearing: Luke Liddy, RICHARD IGNATIUS PRANS, Marji Zintz, Ron Renninger & Timothy Gurshin.

I love the Rosendale Cafe; they present world-class musicians and it's one of the few places I can go where I can order most anything they have on their menu!

What this is. Lifted from their site: "The Rosendale Cafe has been bringing notable performances to the area for 16 years. This more humble opportunity for local performances started with a very successful run of the Community Music Night, and the series has run on and off since fall 2007.

"The showcase has been a performance opportunity for both newly-established artists, and those that were outside the musical style of the Cafe's usual weekend bookings."

12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Ever wonder how music is created? We're going to show you, with a new live music event called "Sessions". Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, we invite you to join saxman and vocalist JP Patrick and his band, Patrick Murphy McDowell, as they rehearse, work, and play for each other, and for you. "Sessions" presents an opportunity for audience members to be co-collaborators on a new song, or to simply get an up-close and personal view of what it takes to put together a live performance. Learn how a guest musician's style can shape the sound of a familiar song. Then, feel free to share your input... as artists and audience create music together.

Budding musicians of all ages will be inspired as they watch the creative process unfold. Even if you don't perform, you'll enjoy this intimate look at how musicians do what they love to do best: "play". Join us for a night of low-volume, high quality music the whole family will enjoy.

"About all a human being is anyway is a hoping machine." Woodie Guthrie

Hope Machine-the band-was born at a 2003 Woody Guthrie hootenanny hosted by Woody's granddaughter Anna Canoni. It's core members are Fred Gillen Jr., Steve Kirkman, and Eric Puente. They rarely do a show without a special guest or two sitting in and their performances are true celebrations of community, spontaneity, and freedom.

Their debut CD March, released in the Winter of 2006/2007, was recorded live-in-the-studio and received folk airplay all over the East Coast. The follow-up CD, Big Green Hope Machine, features some of Gillen and Kirkman's finest songs and great special guests. The CD has gotten great reviews and airplay all over the world.

Hope Machine is always evolving, but the message remains one of hope, peace, and freedom. While they sing many of their own songs, they also remain an "official program" of the Woody Guthrie Foundation, and carry Woody's message wherever they go.

Deni Bonet is the only classically trained musician we know who plays the violin like an air guitar! With a rollicking sense of humor, vibrant violin virtuosity, and a voice that sometimes recalls the breathy gustiness of Blondie's Debbie Harry, Deni fits her string and vocal skills into iconic, catchy alternative pop. She has performed with Cyndi Lauper, R.E.M., Sarah McLachlan, and Robyn Hitchcock, and her latest obsession with the ukulele earned her a headline spot at the NY Ukulele Festival.
