 Eclectic performer Angus Martin celebrates the release of his second CD with a special performance at 3 p.m. Sunday at The CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck.
While playing piano, accordion, and acoustic guitar, Martin leads his band of seasoned musical travelers as they spoon out a balmy bouillabaisse of Cuban Sones and Afros, Haitian Kompas and Troubadoux.
While Martin’s easy-flowing music speaks the universal message “Let’s dance!,” the lyrics of the songs on his second CD, Le Demimonde, are in French, English, Spanish and Haitian Creole.
“Le Demimonde is about different realities, races and cultural identities meeting,” said Martin.

(2 Sessions) This course will cover traditional regional and historic music of the Hudson River Valley. No musical experience is required, but experienced musicians and singers will have a chance to increase their repertoire with "Home Grown" music of the corridor from Albany to New York City. We will study the major local collections of music including, colonial songs from the Allison family, songs of Henry Backus "The Saugerties Bard" from the 1850's and songs and dances from Camp Woodland in the 1950's. Examples will include songs of the railroaders, quarrymen, lumberjacks, steamboat captains, and apple growers. We will also include 20th Century songs by folksong writers such as Grant Rogers, Les Rice, William Geckle, Ken Gonyea, Mark Fried, Rich Nestler and Pete Seeger.

Why is it really cool? Because it’s at The ’76 House in Tappan one of the oldest taverns in the USA!!!
Why is it also really cool? Because the last jam we did in January drew some great players, who along with the ever popular house band The Gurus of Groove, made some really memorable music and had a ball!! In fact it went so well that management wants the “Gurus” to hold the jam twice a month from now on!
Soooooo, once again it’s time to bring your axe, voice, harp, kazoo, sax and sticks, because Thursday February 12th is the date for the next open jam at The '76 House, 110 Main Street, Tappan NY, 845.359.5476 and just like last time, we’ll get started at around 9PM and keep the music coming till 12AM.

The Arts Upstairs in Phoenicia hosts this monthly music event. The $3 donation will benefit Family of Woodstock's Teen Drug Use Prevention Program. The Jesse Janes (formerly The Cover Girlz) will be the feature. Kurt Henry & Cheryl Lambert will open the show at 8:00, open mic follows the Jesse Janes. Refreshments. 
Julian Coryell has been playing and recording music since childhood with everyone from his father (legendary jazz guitarist Larry Coryell) to Carole King, Jewel and Aimee Mann. An Alumnus of the Berklee College of Music, he's also performed with Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock and Billy Cobham. He's produced legendary singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen, and recently played to sold out crowds at the world famous Budokan in Tokyo with Japanese rock star Kazuyah Yoshii.
