Neil Alexander & Nail presents their Annual Winter Solstice Celebration Concert at the Newburgh Free Library on Sunday December 21 at 1:30 PM. The winter solstice was an important date on ancient calendars. Prehistoric monuments like Stonehenge and Newgrange in Ireland indicate the day with remarkable precision. Neil Alexander & Nail will honor the day with their special blend of red-hot jazz, burning grooves and soaring soundscapes. In the spirit of the season they will be accepting canned food donations. Everyone is invited to join in a drum circle jam session finale. Bring a percussion instrument (or a pot and spoon) and plan to make a joyful noise to chase the darkness away and call back the sun
Since forming in 1997, Neil Alexander & NAIL continues a commitment to the future of jazz and improvised music. Directing a diverse stylistic palette and fierce musicianship, Neil and his group skillfully blend modern and traditional forms with experimental concepts and electronic music.
Annual benefit concert, now in its 11th year, which raises blankets for NYC’s homeless.
The sixth and final cantata in our 2008 series, Kairos will present Bach's beautiful Advent Cantata No. 140, Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Wake up, the voice calls us) with chamber orchestra. The concert will also feature Arcangelo Corelli's Christmas Concerto. The concert is free to the public (free-will offering gratefully accepted). The cantata and instrumental work will be performed as part of a choral evensong service. Supported in part by a grant from the Dutchess County Arts Council, administrator of public funds through NYSCA's Decentralization Program.
Once again Carolyn Sills and her band The Poor Man's Roses will be paying tribute to the queen of country music, the late Patsy Cline, with a Country Christmas show in her honor. The show will feature a full night of Patsy Cline hits such as "Crazy"' "Walking After Midnight", "I Fall To Pieces"' and "Sweet Dreams" as well as classic holiday numbers made popular by Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee, Peggy Lee, Elvis Presley, Burl Ives and the like. It's a swinging 50's and 60's tribute sure to get music lovers of all ages in the holiday spirit. The doors open at 5pm and showtime is 7pm. This popular event has become an annual tradition at the Towne Crier with our friends & neighbors, GM&SCOD, who have also recorded these shows on our stage in the past, and released the CDs. The music of Gandalf Murphy & The Slambovian Circus Of Dreams has been variously described as "hillbilly-Floyd," "folk-pop," "alt-country, roots-rock," and "surreal Americana;" a clear indicator of its singularly indescribable uniqueness. Dancing freely between all existing religious and philosophical mythologies, the music is uplifting, empowering, and a lot of fun.

Led by saxophonist and Mahopac High School Band Director Rich Williams, the Secret Organ Trio's sound is rooted in the great American tradition of Hammond organ based jazz groups. The group plays soul jazz, a groove-infused style of jazz that incorporates blues, gospel and rhythm & blues. The sound is reminiscent of the great organ trios of the 1960's with some modern and original elements thrown in as well. The result is a fun atmosphere that moves people and makes everyone feel good. There is no cover for this evenings performance. Your generosity is always appreciated. The CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck will host world-renowned jazz and ragtime quartet, the Diamond Jubilators, at 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 29.
The Diamond Jubilators is an internationally acclaimed jazz band performing music of the 1920s-1940s in an unforgettable way. Since their formation in 1993, they have given thousands of performances in America, Europe, Britain and Australia, enthralling audiences everywhere with their special brand of musical delight. The quartet features Peter Muir on piano, vocalist Susan Burghardt-Diamond, Ivan Hunter on trumpet, and is led by Dr. John Diamond on drums.
The concert is a celebration of the great styles that flourished in America before 1940. Experience the delights of Ragtime, the earthy soulfulness of the Blues and the fiery heat of Dixieland Jazz.

Bobby is known the world over as the Lead Guitarist for Stevie Winwood, Lou Gramm, Benny Mardones and too many others to list. As a matter of fact, When David Bowie lost Stevie Ray Vaughn, David called Bobby to see if he could fill the spot. (Unfortunately, Bobby wasn't available). In 2003, Bobby's second Contemporary Blues CD "Holding Ground" received a first round Grammy nomination. Bobby brings an All-Star lineup to Bodles including Keith Slattery of The 17-Time Grammy Award Winning Jimmy Sturr Orchestra on Keyboards, "The Best Backup Man in the Business" Robert Kopec on standup and electric bass and Special Guest Star Mark "Gus" Scott of the Rock Band TRIXTER on drums.
Scott Urgola, a native of Somers, New York, is an up and coming alternative/indie/folk singer/songwriter with a refreshingly raw sound. He balances an inate sense of realism driven by engaging melodies and introspective lyrics. His voice has a Dylan backslide, unclean but sometimes necessary to feel the song; his lyrics on the whole paint the picture with germane brush strokes; his music so indisputably part of who he is. The good thing is that though Urgola displays an innate reverence for the Dylan aura in his music, he does not allow it to overcome him. Aztec Two-Step's debut album was named one of the top five classic folk albums by Real Simple magazine in '07, joining work by Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Tom Rush and Phil Ochs, also "surpass[ing] Simon and Garfunkel for exquisite harmonies, musicianship and emotion." Their music was a staple of progressive FM and college radio, helping to bring the music of the 1960s into the '70s. Aztec Two-Step continues to impress audiences with their shimmering, intricately textured twin guitar sound, as well as their intelligent songwriting ~ old & new ~ and their inspiring harmonies.
