Friday 8:30 pm | Patty Larkin, Deni Bonet | Bodles Opera House 39 Main Street Chester, NY See Map |
![]() CRITICS CHOICE: PROFOUND RESULTS - New York Times Richly contemplative tracks about solitude and togetherness, open vistas and spiritual quests. Her voice can be breathy and confiding, tinged with the blues or infused with Joni Mitchell's pearly depth... Larkin is deeply attuned to the resonances of her many instruments....meditative chords ripple across acoustic and electric guitars in "Cover Me" and "Traveling Alone," and float over a dance beat in "Phone Message." Countless little slide and steel-guitar licks ricochet around conga drums and filtered choruses of her voice in "Beautiful." MASTERFUL - Billboard The sonic multiplicity of these dozen tunes is impressive. "Hallelujah" is a rhythmic pearl that's radio-ready, while "Hollywood"...elicits an anomalous sound worthy of Laurie Anderson. Ballad "Dear Heart" is direct and elegantly done. "Phone Message" - an uncanny mix of insistent drums, ethereal voices and an instrumental arrangement. ONE OF AMERICAN MUSIC'S MOST DISTINCTIVE GUITARISTS -Associated Press "Watch the Sky," is an artful, forward-minded collection of songs featuring dreamy textures and percolating percussion... Larkin's delicate yet expressive alto probes matters of the spirit and soul... She pulls listeners in with mantras and searching, Zen-inspired phrases, but brings it down to earth with moments of gentle ache and sweet joy. GRIPPING - Boston Globe A stark, yet varied, palette of ambient folk-pop that shimmers softly and speaks in potent, dreamy tones. "Phone Message"...blurs the line between earthy songcraft and modern technology. She nails the misplaced dream of "Hollywood" in a queasy, narcotic thumbnail and chases it with a slinky, beat-driven soul tune more redolent of Erykah Badu than the folk tradition. Opening The Show: Deni Bonet Web Sites: www.pattylarkin.com www.denibonet.com Doors open at 6:30 pm Tickets: Advance $22.50 / Day of Show $25.00 Order online or call 845-469-4595 for reservations. ![]() Friday 9:00 pm | THE CLANCY TRADITION Celtic | Towne Crier Cafe 130 Route 22 Pawling, NY See Map |
The Clancy Tradition's origins are found in Ireland in the 1950s when the Clancy family of Moy, County Tyrone formed a Ceili Band, playing at Irish country dances and concerts throughout Ireland. In 1960, brothers Pat, Eugene and Brendan Clancy left to tour the United States as the Irish Ramblers, playing at clubs like Gerde's Folk City & Carnegie Hall(!), and recording The Patriot Game for Electra. Their musical tradition is currently being passed to the next generation with The Clancy Tradition: Eugene on guitar & vocals, daughter Rosemary Clancy on fiddle & mandolin, son John Clancy on bass, Pat on piano & accordion and daughter Liadain Clancy singing. We are honored that they chose the Towne Crier Cafe's stage to perform & record for their live album.

His presence at such important events as the miners' labor battles in Kentucky, the Freedom Rides to the deep south and the 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention brought him to the heart of the struggle. ![]() Saturday 9:00 pm | LEON REDBONE Acoustic, Americana | Towne Crier Cafe 130 Route 22 Pawling, NY See Map |
Although Leon Redbone's iconic guise of white fedora, jacket and dark sunglasses has been thoroughly satirized, it's easy to overlook what a genuinely gifted artist he remains. His love affair with tunes from the turn-of-the-19th/20th-century, flapper-era radio ditties, depression-spawned ragtime and WWII folk-jazz is as contagious as a good giggle. Opportunities for this unlikely figure to impose himself on pop culture have been plentiful: his network debut on Saturday Night Live in 1976, making him a cult classic; the wise, animated snowman in Elf (his duet on Baby, It's Cold Outside served as the picture's theme song); TV title tunes to Mr Belvedere and Harry & The Hendersons; the homespun beer jingle This Bud's for You; the Getting To Know You voice on a series of Chevrolet ads; etc. It's easy to get lost in his stage exploits, and overlook what a truly fine player he is -- fingerpicking with a ragtime bounce or jumping between chords with the grace of a card sharp.More info at the Towne Crier Cafe | ||
