The band features three part vocal harmony, solid rhythm and soloing on mandolin and guitar, twin fiddles, and acoustic bass. Their repertoire ranges from the band's original contemporary acoustic songs to fast-paced instrumentals to arrangements of traditional tunes evoking the high lonesome sounds of Bill Monroe. Bearfoot has toured extensively in the US, Canada and Ireland playing concerts and festivals. In 2001, they won the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition, joining such other notable winners as The Dixie Chicks and Nickel Creek, to whom they have been compared for their fresh new sound. If you don't know Tom, here are some excerpts from his All Music Guide listing. "...his songs are frequently brilliant, and have been covered by countless artists. Pacheco moved to Woodstock, NY in 1978, where he formed a band called The Hellhounds. He moved to Nashville in 1986, then to Dublin, which was to be his base in Europe for the next decade. Pacheco returned to Woodstock in 1997, recording what is arguably his finest album, Woodstock Winter, with producer and Band guitarist Jim Weider. The album was tracked at Levon Helm's studio and featured guest shots by several members of The Band, including Helm and Rick Danko.Pacheco's fan base remains strong in Europe, where he tours constantly.Pacheco's voice and vision are as timelessly American as Woody Guthrie."
