pen Book is the working identity of singer/songwriters Michele Rubin and Rick Gedney. An amalgam of folk inflected styles with tunes that concern themselves with love and loss, their music crosses into the urban landscape as easily as it inhabits and embraces it's rural roots. The duo's harmonies are sublime and tastefully evocative; their music is amply fulfilling and the structures incorporate sounds that travel far outside the standard instrumentation of the base genre to incorporate sounds from the city and world.

NAKED was born in 1999, revolving around the songs, spirit, vision and voice of singer/songwriter Julia Nichols. Difficult to to categorize, Naked provides an ambient, genre defying mix of magical elements that touch upon, soul, jazz, blues and pop with a bohemian air. Known for their vocal arrangements & harmonies, driven by an intricate tapestry of rhythm, described by many as a wall of sound. Singer Rachel, describes Julia's melodic style as similar to her Father Richie Havens. Her songs are written almost in counter melody. In the grand tradition of Papa Funk, Julia and the core members of Naked are something like the roots of a tree, the revolving members acting as branches together bearing melodic fruit abundant and ripe. Naked looks to share the harvest of a new album after a creative summer in the Catskills. No cover, for more info visit Woodstock MusicWorks

Friday 9:00 pm | Two Drink Mary | Bodles Opera House 39 Main Street Chester, NY See Map |
If you are looking for cover band that isn't necessarily playing all the hits, but instead, playing songs that they like, then this is the band to see. If you are looking for an original act that has passion and intensity, then this is the band to see. Combining covers and originals is what these guys do best. Covering such artists as Neil Young, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, The Samples, Tom Petty and many more, they give their own taste and feel to many of the songs you don't normally hear being played by local bands. Their originals are simple and follow in the rock'n'roll spirit of music. A four-piece act you don't want to miss. Doors open at 6:30 pm Tickets: $10.00 call 845-469-4595 for reservations. Individually, these veteran pickers have been winning honors (too numerous to mention here) since the early '70s. They have also toured with the likes of Bill Keith, Doc & Merle Watson, the Country Gentleman, Norman Blake and, of course, The McKrells -- playing alongside these other legends and/or opening for them on stages from country festivals to Carnegie Hall. Together, in this new progressive bluegrass band, they play fast and fun, but their compositions also express the entire range of human emotion. More info at the Towne Crier Cafe
