A Great CO-Bill!
with Dan Navarro, Darden Smith
Bodles Opera House
39 Main Street
Chester, NY   See Map
For twenty years, Dan Navarro has written, recorded and toured as part of the folk rock duo of Lowen and Navarro. Their ten CDs showcase self-penned songs of experience, colored by supple acoustic-based arrangements centered around their intertwined voices. A few years ago Eric Lowen was diagnosed with ALS and had to cut his touring schedule to an occasional outing, but Dan is determined to keep their music alive. With considerable courage, he is setting out on the road, for the first time in many years, as a solo performer. Individually, Dan has flourished in other parts of the entertainment industry since 1988. He has had great success as a session singer and voice actor in English and Spanish.

Texas singer-songwriter Darden Smith was once describe as an explorer. This fits. During his 20-year career, he has recorded in folk, country and pop settings. He has co-written songs with a British rocker, released 10 critically acclaimed albums, created works for dance theater, done symphonic collaborations and through his "Be An Artist" Program, brought to children across the US and Europe the message of the inherent creative capabilities in everyone. Darden Smith has made himself at home in studios in Manhattan, Nashville and London, as well as Austin. With every CD he releases his focus and style continues to shift, yet remains true to his roots.

9:00 pm
EILEN JEWELL BAND, with special guest JASON SPOONER TRIO
Singer-Songwriter
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
In an era dominated by artfully inscrutable songwriters, EILEN JEWELL's songs come on like nakedness and thunder: "You show me the well, but you don't let me drink," she sings, and you know exactly why she's "going some place where they never say your name." When she hisses that she's "Too Hot to Sleep," you know she ain't talking about the weather. Jewell's heart-achingly hushed style and intimate grasp of roots music's wild graces are set to a swaying, irrepressible groove by her band, evoking classic country, folk and swing without feeling nostalgic.

The maturity and strength of JASON SPOONER's impressive debut album quickly turned the heads of fans & critics alike. However, the band's dynamic live show, complete with refreshing hints of passionate roots & blues and a blistering rhythm section in the supporting cast, has established The Jason Spooner Trio as one of the most interesting and noteworthy up-and-comers since Kathleen Edwards or Martin Sexton.

This Texas native, based in Austin (you may have caught him on Austin City Limits), is blessed with a distinctive, vibrant voice that is the perfect vehicle for soul-baring ballads, burning anthems, and driving straight-ahead rock 'n' roll. His self-penned material earned him the Songwriter Of The Year Award (and 4 others) at the 1995 Kerrville Music Awards. "Jimmy LaFave stands out like a pint of Guinness in a bar full of Miller Lites." "...a honeyed-whisky voice that can send chills down your spine." - Associated Press "A perfect balance between a vagabond's restless spirit and a family man's thirst for stability...the ballads shudder & ache while the rockers haul ass like there's no tomorrow." - Houston Press "Jimmy LaFave delivers with foot-to-the-floor passion." - Playboy
