Modern Man, Deborah HollandBodles Opera House
39 Main Street
Chester, NY   See Map
Genetically Engineered for Your Listening Pleasure! If only Charles Darwin could see what's become of Modern Man - the highly evolved comedy troupe performing all those spiffy humorous tunes! It is now scientifically proven that David Buskin, Rob Carlson and George Wurzbach have joined forces to form the most musically hilarious collection of primates since the Three Stooges played the Hollywood Bowl (Larry Fine was quite the violin virtuoso you know). Modern Man is the next step in the evolution of comedy. Lampooning everything from the FBI to ESPN, with a few letters left over for anyone else who gets in the way, it's clear that these three sharp singer/songwriters don't just monkey around with music, they have a knack for comedy and are fine musicians with distinguished heredity. If there is anything to that survival of the fittest theory, Modern Man should be around for a long, long time. They are the missing link between you and your funny bone!

At the age of fourteen, the inability to turn a cartwheel changed the direction of Deborah Holland's life. "After not making the cheerleading squad in junior high school, I began playing guitar and writing songs," she says. And the rest, as they say, is history. Deborah went on to become the lead singer and songwriter of Animal Logic, a trio rounded out by Stewart Copeland of Police fame and jazz star Stanley Clarke. Their eclectic sound led to two critically acclaimed albums, worldwide touring, and appearances on David Letterman, The Tonight Show, VH-1, and MTV. In addition to making records, Deborah scores music and writes songs for film and television, is a full-time professor of music at California State University at Los Angeles, and performs live. Add to this being a mother, and you have the makings of a hectic lifestyle, one which Deborah says has given her an idea of what a professional juggler feels like. But apparently she wouldn’t change a thing. "Music is as much a part of my life as breathing," she says, "and it has been a whole lot more satisfying than making the cheerleading squad ever would have been."

PATTY LARKIN, with special guest PAT WICTOR
Singer-Songwriter
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
A guitar focused singer-songwriter, Patty Larkin has immersed herself in a musical world that knows no borders. Her recent solo release, Red=Luck, showcases a world where the ancient strains of modal folk meet brooding ambient noise. It is a world where Middle-Eastern flavored melodies collide with R&B, where joyous pop and somber reflection, playful eroticism and naked soul searching entwine. Here Larkin has created a world beyond her guitar that springs from the imagination, each song part of a tightly written song cycle cinema verite of challenging times. Red=Luck is the supremely assured work of an artist who has caught a near perfect wave: an artist whose influence becomes clearer with each passing season. While Larkin's fine guitar work has been recognized by live audiences since her celebrated emergence on the acoustic music scene, her skills as a producer, soundscape artist and songwriter have garnered accolades from fans and critics alike (Billboard, Rolling Stone, etc).

Old Blind Dogs are on the cutting edge of Scotland's roots revival, with a trademark sound in which dynamic percussion and bluesy harmonica fuel the delicately phrased melodies of traditional songs. The lineup consists of Aaron Jones, bass, bouzouki and backing vocals; Rory Campbell, border (reel) pipes, whistles and backing vocals; Jonny Hardie, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and backing vocals; Fraser Stone, drums and percussion. Their latest CD, Play Live, was recorded in the USA during the band's Spring 2004 tour. Old Blind Dogs move easily from traditional song to original tune, while perfectly blending old and new sounds. Join us for their return appearance at the café.
