Zephyr's emphasis on local food has been embraced by its mountainside community. Michael Hegeman, owner and chef, says that diners return regularly; sometimes, more than once a day.
Zephyr launched with breakfast and brunch, and those meals have earned a dedicated following. Among the top sellers are twists on traditional: pancakes, french toast and eggs Benedict. The signature treat is the Carrot (Pan)Cake Stack–three large carrot cake batter pancakes, frosted with cream cheese and festooned with candied pecans.
The dinner menu demonstrates that challenge-yourself spirit by ranking its dishes into levels of difficulty, from “Beginners” such as Lumbered Mountain Man Nachos to “Advanced” choices, like the cedar-planked, honey-roasted organic Scottish salmon with a smoky sweet cherry tomato ragout and the marinated, grass-fed, local 12-ounce boneless rib-eye steak with herb roasted fingerling potatoes and fizzled onions.
There are several delicious vegetarian and vegan choices as well.
