I love the Rosendale Cafe; they present world-class musicians and it's one of the few places I can go where I can order most anything they have on their menu!

What this is. Lifted from their site: "The Rosendale Cafe has been bringing notable performances to the area for 16 years. This more humble opportunity for local performances started with a very successful run of the Community Music Night, and the series has run on and off since fall 2007.

"The showcase has been a performance opportunity for both newly-established artists, and those that were outside the musical style of the Cafe's usual weekend bookings."

Jazz
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Hailed as one of the most exciting instrumentalists in decades, Joey Pero's star has risen meteorically. Critics compare Pero to trumpet greats Wynton Marsalis and the late, great jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson. While at Juilliard, Wynton Marsalis took an interest in Joey's musical ability and began teaching him privately. Joey also played second chair on tour with Maynard Ferguson. Joey will be performing selections from his highly-acclaimed CD, "Resonance". Joey says, "We want to deliver the energy and excitement that "Resonance" is to the wonderful audience at 12 Grapes, fast becoming one of my favorite venues."

Pero will be accompanied by pianist Jon Ware, bassist Jeff Little, drummer Pete Abazia, and acclaimed marimba player, Simon Boyar.

"Pero is a supreme master of the instrument in both jazz and classical disciplines, an achievement of grand (and near impossible) proportions." - AllAboutJazz.com

This is all about memoir: reading it, writing it etc
Kleinert James Gallery
Woodstock, NY   See Map
This will be the 2nd gathering of the Woodstock Writers' Festival celebrating Memoir on Valentine's Day weekend. Last year's was a huge hit. I took part in a performance by songwriters who write autobiographical songs, and I also read some of my memoir at the final luncheon.

Happily, I've been invited back for my own hour of reading and performing this year. My dear friend and mentor Abigail Thomas will be hosting the event on Saturday the 13th of February at the Kleinert James Art Center from 1:15 - 2:15 in the afternoon. Last year's calendar was jammed with excellent readings and the venues were packed to the gills for each one. Don't miss it if you're within driving distance.

Starts Friday, runs through Monday of Valentine's Day weekend.

Woodstock, NY   See Map
Every Thursday night, I'm the happiest, luckiest girl on the planet because Abigail Thomas welcomes me and several others into her home for a writing workshop. Each week, we're asked to read up to seven pages of what we've written in the previous week. The weekly discipline keeps us all on our toes, and every week, I am completely impressed by the talent in the group. This year, at the Woodstock Writers' Festival, our group has been invited to read as part of the weekend calendar. We'll each have 3 -4 minutes to read a short piece. Please come! It's a great group. So much fun and I think you'll find it to be very inspiring. We're at the Kleinert James Gallery at 2:15 for 30 minutes immediately following my hour-long reading/performance hosted by Abby.

Combining equal parts folk, rock and Americana, Joe Whyte's songs have been described as "alt-country pearls that shimmer with simplicity and effectiveness" and "beautifully crafted, melancholic Americana." Whyte's vocal delivery, storytelling and confessional lyrics convey a sense of urgency not typically seen in today's music industry. Joe is currently finishing material for a follow-up to 2007's critically-acclaimed album, Devil in the Details, which received 4 Stars from Maverick, was named to Americana Roots' Best of 2007 List and was predicted to "make history" by Rootsville.

"DAVID STONE: The Johnny Cash Experience" is the only Johnny Cash Tribute ever to be selected by the State of California (even over Johnny's original band) to play the 40th anniversary commemoritive concert at San Quentin State Prison on February 24, 2009, celebrating The historic performance of Johnny Cash at the facility in 1969.

The mission of "DAVID STONE: The Johnny Cash Experience" is simple: We are an accurate, note-for-note, authentic representation of The Johnny Cash Show, without cheap "impersonation". Like the original BEATLEMANIA, the music and history of the legend is conveyed with dignity.

"DAVID STONE: The Johnny Cash Experience" takes the audience through the late country legend's career, covering Early Johnny Cash, Johnny Cash & June Carter, and the Folsom Prison Concert Era. MIA JOHNSON "June Carter-Cash" Mia Johnson was born and raised in Michigan but has since laid down roots in Philadelphia, PA as a staple on the City's music scene. Over the last decade this singer, songwriter, recording artist and front woman could be found headlining at venues in Philadelphia and others up and down the East Coast, performing her original, acoustic rock music. Her late 2004 full-length CD “Driver” features her current six-piece rock band. Find out more about Mia Johnson at: www.miajohnson.net. Call for TX info 845 647 3821

So we're hoping you'll join us to help send some assistance to the relief effort. We'll be claiming our regular floor space, and making sure there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on -- but NO earthquake, Jebediah. Furthermore . . . it's guaranteed that you will feel good AND have a good time.

Described as a virtuoso who lends her vocal flair to every song she sings, Rhonda is a soulfully gifted singer whose influences range from Jazz to R&B to 80's standards, and she even adds her own inspirational ballads. With a repertoire that spans from Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and Anita Baker to Stevie Wonder to the pop band Journey, Rhonda puts a soulful spin on everything she sings, with a voice that will take your breath away.

The Rhonda Denét Project includes the "vocal pyrotechnics" of Miss Rhonda Denet along with Dave McDowell on sax and flute, Juan Gallego on guitar and bass and Chuck Batton on drums.
