Delaware Valley Opera Opera
The Delaware Valley Opera, was founded 23 years ago in Narrowsburg, NY to provide professional level opera performances to the Hudson Valley, Catskill and Pocono region. The company is dedicated to promoting local professional singers and musicians, offering them an opportunity to perform a wide range of repertory. The company presents 2-4 productions each summer season, accompanied by the Delaware Valley Chamber Orchestra and DVO Choral Ensemble. It also brings special performances to school and community groups throughout the region.
This season the company has reduced its season to two main stage productions: Puccini's beloved opera "La Boheme" (sung in Italian) and Lehar's joyous light opera "The Merry Widow" (sung in English), both fully staged, costumed and accompanied by chamber orchestra. Performances will take place at the intimate Tusten Theatre in the charming Sullivan County town of Narrowsburg located on the scenic Delaware River. Two performances will be given at Sullivan County Community College’s Seelig Theatre in Loch Shedrake, NY.
Dr. Jim Blanton enjoys his third season as the Musical Director of the Delaware Valley Opera and the Delaware Valley Chamber Orchestra. A resident of Port Jervis, he has led a multifaceted career as a conductor, musical director, stage director, singer and pianist. He has been Conductor and Creator of New York's acclaimed Goliard Chamber Orchestra and Chorale, Musical Director for the Tri States Actors Theatre, Director of the Warwick Music Festival and creator of the Kids Classics concert series. Dr. Blanton will conduct all of this season's performances.
