Hudson Music Festival
First Annual Hudson Music Festival Coming to Hudson, NY – August 12-14, 2011

The Hudson Music Festival cements the evolution of the City of Hudson into the Hudson Valley’s next big “music town,” replacing Woodstock as a key for hearing, and recording, the best new sounds around. Augmenting the classic (and classy) music store Musica, the launch of the hyper-programming Helsinki Hudson, the rise of Spotty Dog Books & Ale as a key venue, and continuing major gigs at established cultural centers Time & Space Limited, the Hudson Opera House and Basilica Hudson, the small city with a rich past has also been attracting big-name musicians, sound technicians and artists of all stripes to live and work here. Hudson is now home to four recording studios, with more setting up shop. There are four weekly Open-Mic nights at various locations. The hopping-new community radio station WGXC is broadcasting live in-studio sessions, and increasingly popular (and influential) music shows day and night, as well as a regular groundbreaking assortment of Transmission Arts sounds. And every Wednesday night from July 20 – August 17 the City provides free concerts at the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park.

Seems overwhelming already? How about summing it up as the perfect moment to let the world in on Hudson as the cool place to be by bringing it ALL together with a city-wide music festival on a par with New Orleans, Austin, and other new destinations on America’s music map. Scheduled events start Friday, August 12th with music provided by local restaurants during evening meals, plus a host of special tented venues. There will be a star-studded festival fundraiser with three stages at Helsinki Hudson, where music will play from 5:00-PM till midnight. For those who like late late night vibes, Basilica Hudson will kick off their fun at 10pm.

Saturday, August 13, Hudson will be jumping as restaurants continue hosting music during lunch and dinner hours and those special tent venues continue along Warren Street. Our partnering organization, the Hudson Black Arts & Cultural Festival, will host a parade down Warren Street, starting at Seventh Street Park at 2:00 PM. At their destination, in the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park, there will be more music, food vendors, a talent show, and special presentations… all under a large tent with stage from 3:00 PM to sunset. Basilica Hudson will then open their doors at 7:00 PM for a special evening entitled MUSIC-DJS-ART-FOG & LASERS, featuring live performances and a DJ dance-fest.

Talk about cementing Hudson as THE new music destination in not only the Hudson Valley and New York State, but the entire U.S. of A. And remember, it all takes place the same weekend that OTHER festival drew a crowd some 42 years ago, farther down the valley…

Finally, on Sunday, August 14, there will be live music in participating restaurants, even more live performances in special tent venues, and the Hudson Black Arts & Cultural Festival will close the day, and entire weekend festival, with a special participatory Gospel presentation at the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park.

The Hudson Music Festival is a project of Artspire, a Program of the New York Foundation for the Arts, a 501(c)(3) and is also supported by generous local businesses and organizations.
