"After years spent "lost in the wilderness" of music and commerce, Bruce T Carroll has returned to his roots and his first and abiding love: lyric songwriting. With the release last year of his first official album Ruckus and Romance, hailed by No Depression Magazine as "devilishly brilliant" and "intensely beautiful," Bruce has forged a new career as a singer-songwriter using irony and imagery as tools in trade. The great cast of musicians who helped make Ruckus and Romance such a distinctive work include Clifford Carter, David Spinozza, Marc Shulman, Sara Milonovich, Tracy Grammer, Nicole Alifante, Porter Carroll, Lincoln Schlieffer and Joe Bonadio. While promoting the CD over the last year Bruce has shared the stage with the likes of Slaid Cleaves, Jimmy LaFave, Dan Bern, Ellis Paul, and Rita Coolidge.. Bruce's brand new release, a six-song EP called Finding You, is a sort of lyrical tone poem, with the theme of finding, or regaining, something that might be missing, or lost."

Frank Viele has been something of a regional secret throughout New England, as an unrivaled quadruple-threat singer, guitarist, songwriter and performer, recognized by the New England Music Awards for Album of the Year, Male Performer of the Year, and Live Act of The Year.

Musically tuned-in folks have been hearing reports of Viele’s “vivid storytelling" (No Depression), how his “street growl” rivets passersby, and calling his shows “transcendent” and that his music “will rattle your bones and penetrate to the core" (Howl Magazine).

Frank has released a new album "What's His Name", and since his album, Fall Your Way (2015), he’s opened for Will Hoge, Blues Traveler, Lee DeWyze, Zach Myers of Shinedown, and The Marshall Tucker Band. In his own wonderstruck words, “artists who have been on my personal playlists for years.”

"...folk music may fall into the same trap that plagues a watered down genre....accustomed to the same formula....Luckily, Lee DeWyze has released an album [Oil & Water] that does more for the genre than anyone might have expected....there is an element of purity and honesty here that can speak to the mind and heart." - sputnikmusic.com

Indie Alt-Rocker, Lee DeWyze (American Idol Winner 2010) launched albums to accelerate what was already a high-profile musical career. What followed was high-caliber praise from the LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Yahoo Music, Rolling Stone, among others.

Lee's album "Frames" garnered broad industry attention and proved DeWyze was not only a great singer, but an extremely talented songwriter, with his friend and engineer Nico Grossfeld.

His latest release (2018) Paranoia embraces synthesizers and moody textures, and its song "Sink or Swim" can heard in the new film "Ben is Back".

Singer-songwriters Deb Talan & Steve Tannen began writing together the night they met, and soon formed indie band The Weepies. On the strength of their simple yet insightful songwriting and distinctive harmonies, they quietly sold more than 1.5 million records with over 54 million streams on Spotify, 25+ million views on YouTube, and over 110k social media followers. They married and had three children, rarely touring but continuing to release their music; five records over seven years.

Just before Christmas 2013, when their youngest son was 17 months old, Deb Talan was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. She was in chemo by New Year’s Eve.

In 2014, Deb beat cancer, and The Weepies recorded the best album of their career. Coming back from the edge sharpened their skills and focus. At 16 songs and almost an hour long, SIRENS shows a band at the height of its powers.

"Forget the likes of Pete Yorn and John Mayer. In Masterson, we have a homegrown talent who wipes the floor with the lot of them" - UNCUT, UK

West London musician, Adam Masterson's debut album One Tale Too Many received much critical praise, featured many Van Morrison alumni and session musicians in the production. Adam has also performed with Mick Jones of The Clash, Patti Smith, and Joseph Arthur.

Adam has released the single “Runaway”, which retains his masterful rock/soul delivery, reminding listeners of rock’s more luminous voices of the 60’s and 70’s.

Calling in favors from musicians and friends, the single assembled a gang of top British session players who associated with some of rock’s biggest names including Paul Stacey on high strung guitar (Oasis/Black Crowes), Charlie Jones on bass (Page and Plant/Goldfrapp). and David Rhodes on electric Guitars (Peter Gabriel/Scott Walker).

“...one of the best guitarists in the country...” - Billboard

2018 GRAMMY nominee Scott Sharrard had been the touring guitarist for the Gregg Allman Band since the Fall of 2008. Gregg Allman, had high praise for the guitarist...

“I know all about guitar players —I’ve seen the very best — and Scott Sharrard is the perfect guitarist for my band. He understands that you don’t need to play just for the sake of playing; Scott isn’t one of those guys who thinks they’re getting paid by the note. He never steps on the vocals, and leaves plenty of room for everyone else to do their thing, but when it’s time to solo, Scott delivers, boy.”

Sharrard's album "Saving Grace" is celebrating its 2018 release with a US eastern seaboard tour!

Sprouted from New York’s fertile Hudson Valley, Rootbrew was formed by Benjy Bruno and Ryan Reutershan with the purpose of exploring a shared appreciation for the uplifting and positive sounds of world music, that they had grown up listening to and continued to develop an interest in, throughout their adult lives.

Their songwriting reflects influences with a clear focus on their American roots, while drawing heavily from the musical heroes of West and South Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

Roger LaRochelle is the locked-in drummer, needed to hold down the groove this music requires. Meg Riebesell is the powerful and harmonically gifted voice delivering wide-ranging lyrical messages with the true beauty the songs deserve.

Their current EP, Resistance, is available through Bandcamp.

The Trapps are an original roots rock band that was formed in New Paltz, New York in the winter of 2003. Standing center stage at a Trapps show is Sean Schenker, who's poetic lyrics, soulful vocal delivery and percussive acoustic guitar simultaneously form the band's foundation and direction. On either side of Sean are bass player Jason Sarubbi and drummer Seth Moutal who support the songs with a solid but organic rhythmic groove while belting out sweet vocal harmonies. Guitar players Warren Gold and John Burdick set up at the far left and right edges of the stage and weave in and out of the sonic mix with soaring lead melodies and lush rhythmic passages.

The Trapps will be playing old favorites and selections from their latest CD. This will be a joyous evening with family and friends and, most assuredly, an incredible night of music not to be missed.

The Cafe is thrilled to have The Trapps back to their hometown venue.

"Despite his success and sense of history, Mr. Paul remains an artist with his eye on the future and an interest in discovering the transformative potential in his music." The New York Times Some artists document their lives through their music. Others chronicle their times. Its a rare artist who can do both, telling their own story through songs that also encapsulate the essence of people and places who have helped define their era overall. Woody Guthrie comes to mind, and so does Bob Dylan. Bruce Springsteen certainly as well. Yet few others, for whatever genius they may possess, can relate their own history to the history experienced by those who find that common bond, be it in a coming of age, living through the same realities or sharing similar experiences.Ellis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters.

Aretha Franklin ~ honored as a legend and the undeniable queen of all things soul.

Purdie's been honing his craft since he was a child, but at least one of the iconic grooves of his career happened by accident — when a piece of sheet music slid out of place at a session with Aretha Franklin.

"We were actually recording 'Rock Steady.' She's at the piano. Chuck Rainey on the bass. Cornell Dupree. Hugh McCracken, he was there, too. But ...her music fell off the piano," he says. "The red light was on...you are recording. Tape was very, very expensive."

So, Purdie says, he seized the moment and bashed out a drum break. "We kept the music going, and I captured the eight bars that has taken me around the world. Everybody thought it was the most phenomenal drum break in my life — and all I was doing was keeping my time. 98 percent of the people in the world didn't know my drum break was an accident. I love it." - NPR Music
