 “THE SACRED RUN, the lotus and the feather,” a 55-minute documentary film by Andrea Sadler, will be shown at 7 pm on Friday, March 9th at Tompkins Corners Cultural Center in Putnam Valley, NY.
The evening will honor Dennis Banks (April 12, 1937 – October 29, 2017), who with First Nation people from North America and Japan, were joined by volunteers from thirteen countries on a ceremonial run finishing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This remarkable physical and spiritual journey of a diverse group of all ages voyaging 4,000 km along the Sea of Japan, carried the simple message, that All Life is Sacred. Banks was an Anishinaabe Native American activist, teacher, and author and a longtime leader of the American Indian Movement, which he co-founded in 1968 to ensure and protect the civil rights of Native Americans.

The music of the Boomers covers many styles. They have been described in the folk song magazine Sing Out!, as “a refreshing reminder of the halcyon days of American folk music” and praised as “an enthusiastic testament to the sheer joy of singing and playing music.” In addition to original songs, the Boomers draw on sources including traditional tunes, contemporary artists like Greg Brown and Dougie MacClean, and classic “folksingers” like Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Phil Ochs.
Whatever the source of a song, it is “Boomerized” – recast in distinctive arrangements with rich three and four part harmonies.

 Davis once said, "I like antiques and old things, old places, that still have the dust of those who've gone before us lying upon them." Blowing that dust off just enough to see its beauty is something Guy has excelled at for over 20 years of songwriting and performing. It's no wonder his reverence for the blues masters who've gone before has been evident in every album he's ever recorded or concert he's given.
Guy has had his musical storytelling influenced by artists like Blind Willie McTell and Big Bill Broonzy, and his musicality from artists as diverse as Lightnin' Hopkins and Babatunde Olatunji. However, there's one man that Guy most credits for his harmonica techniques -- that man is Sonny Terry.
Guy Davis has spent his musical life carrying his message of the blues around the world, from the Equator to the Arctic Circle. His work as an actor, author, and music teacher earmark him as both a Renaissance man and a true ambassador of the blues.

Spencertown Academy Concert Series presents NEQ on Saturday. March 10 at 7:30pm. The Hudson Valley-based band plays rock, Americana, Afro-Cuban, classical, funk, and ethnic grooves, engaging the listener with a dynamic sound and a collision of musical styles. Cabaret-style seating general admission tickets ($20 public, $15 Academy members, $10 students, and $5 for student members) may be purchased in advance via www.spencertownacademy.org and will be available at the door.
The NEQ concert in Spencertown will feature original music, as well as instrumental arrangements of cover material.  Marc's original music is influenced by Folk, Funk & Blues, with a few choice cover songs woven in. As one reviewer wrote: "If you haven't seen Marc Von Em perform live, you're only cheating yourself."
Marc creates amazing amounts of sound and diversity through his voice and one faithful guitar. His chops are wide-ranging, from delicate finger picking to rambunctious Pete Townsend-type strumming. Marc is able to seamlessly switch his vibe -- his dynamic voice can go from smooth & soaring to smoky scatting. His harmonica playing is equally impressive and he sometimes uses it to accompany Muddy Waters-style blues on guitar.
Just off his 3rd tour with The Rob Thomas Band -- this year with the famed '90s band, Counting Crows -- Marc Von Em receives raves reviews wherever he plays. Rob Thomas wrote, "... when I heard his original stuff, I asked [Marc] to open up a 10,000 seat gig. Just him, his guitar, and his songs. He killed it!"

Brenda Ferguson, organist/director and member of the Manhattan AGO, has performed as a soloist and served as choir master in many schools and prestigious churches. She has conducted instrumental ensembles and symphony orchestras in seven states: Michigan, New York, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia. Brenda has served as director/producer of 30 musicals. Her three years as Director of the MMC Chorus was mutually rewarding with accolades. The organ recital will include works by Gigout, Vierne, Bach, Dupré and Widor.
