Friday 9:00 pm | PETER TORK (of the Monkees) & Shoe Suede Blues Blues | Towne Crier Cafe 130 Route 22 Pawling, NY See Map |
Long before THE MONKEES, PETER TORK was a well-respected musician/artist in the burgeoning New York folk scene. Peter's gift for playing a plethora of instruments generated high demand for his services as a sideman/back-up artist. Peter knocked around for several hungry years in the mid-'60s, 'hanging' and performing with the likes of John Phillips, Steven Stills and Dave Van Ronk. The fateful call, which would change Peter's life forever, came in June of 1965: Friend and confidant Steven Stills, not quite hitting the mark with his own audition for The Monkees TV series, rang his buddy Peter, urging him to give it a go. Music legend Jimi Hendrix jammed with Peter on several occasions, calling him "The most talented Monkee." More recently, Tork's love affair with the blues resulted in Shoe Suede Blues - Peter's band of seasoned pros that deliver a mixture that is heartfelt, soulful, uplifting and quite unforgettable ...divined from their vision of what music is all about. Sunday 9:00 pm | Fountains Of Wayne With Special Guest Mike Viola Rock (classic) | Bearsville Theater 291 Tinker St Woodstock, NY See Map |
Doors 8pm; Show At 9pm Tickets $25 In late 2003, Fountains Of Wayne received a flattering, but rather puzzling, "Best New Artist" Grammy nomination (one of two categories in which they were named that year). This certainly made long-time fans chuckle; those in the know knew that Welcome Interstate Managers, the albumthat spawned the ubiquitous "Stacy's Mom" and topped critics' polls everywhere, was actually the New York-based group's third collection of melodic pop/rock gems. And far from being a flash in the pan, the quartet was considered by many to be -- in the words of Robert Christgau - "peerless" and "true art heroes", or as Entertainment Weekly called them, "America's greatest extant rock and roll band." But FOW couldn't help enjoying the new-found attention as they began headlining bigger venues, topping charts on MTV and VH1, and appearing on a "Now That's What I Call Music" compilation CD next to the likes of Jay-Z, Nickelback and Black Eyed Peas. | ||
