Filling the void between The Three Tenors and The Three Stooges ...

With the release of their third CD, Assisted Living, the somewhat musical group known as MODERN MAN continues its assault on the out-moded idea that only those persons not yet manifesting symptoms of senile dementia should perform in public. If the sight of three seniors attempting a hip-hop song ("Assisted Living") or transparently trying to get a fatwa issued on themselves for the sake of notoriety ("Abdul, The Reluctant Martyr") doesn't bring up your lunch, you may well be Navy Seal material.

MODERN MAN is: DAVID BUSKIN / ROB CARLSON / GEORGE WURZBACH

Opening the show: Carla Ulbrich. A fan favorite on the long-running, nationally syndicated Dr. Demento show, award-winning songwriter and Professional Smart Aleck Carla Ulbrich has been compared to the likes of Weird Al, Chet Atkins and a bologna sandwich. A better guitar player than most bologna sandwiches, the South Carolina native and former school band geek has a BA in Music which she currently uses to cover a hole in the wall. She made her singing debut at a pig pickin' on Spring Break in college.

with Port O'Monkeys, Dan Lavoie
Acoustic, World
Common Ground Coffeehouse
25 Old Jackson Avenue
Hastings-on-Hudson, NY   See Map
As one of the few musicians in the world actively composing and performing on the rare harpguitar, Dan LaVoie is bringing a unique sound to acoustic music fans. Bob Makin from Relics Magazine says “Dan’s soaring execution will drop the jaws of unsuspecting acoustic music fans and impress those familiar with this young man’s chops!” Reminiscent of Michael Hedges and Richie Havens, Dan’s music is sophisticated and compelling. In the last few years, Dan has toured all over the U.S. and has shared the stage with Vance Gilbert, The Dave Brubeck Quartet, Muriel Anderson, Cliff Eberhardt, Dickey Betts, Levon Helm and more. Also appearing will be Port O’Monkeys, who perform acoustic music with both Spanish and Middle Eastern influences. They play Flamenco and gypsy songs on Spanish guitars and Middle Eastern music on instruments like an oud, trombone, violin and other instruments. Tickets are: $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and youth aged 12-18. Kids under 12 are free.

Expect The Unexpected!
with "Uncommon Ground"
Bluegrass, World
Schultzville Music Hall
1144 Centre Rd (Cty Rt 18)
Schultzville, NY   See Map
Expect the unexpected! This is one of our favorite places to play ... an intimate room with great acoustics, run by some of the nicest people on the planet. We plan to showcase some of the individual talents that make up Uncommon Ground with an expanded repertoire that will include our usual tunes but might also include some Bach, some seriously fun Celtic music and maybe even a French Horn tune or two thrown in for good measure! C'mon out ... It's going to be a GREAT time!!

“Uncommon Ground”, is an alternative bluegrass group on a mission to flex the boundaries of traditional music. Combining razor-sharp vocals, fiery instrumentals and an ever growing repertoire of well-crafted tunes.

“Uncommon Ground” draws on the talents of Michael Kobetitsch, Sara Della Posta, Wayne Fugate, Rachel Handman and Phil Helm. Collectively, their technical precision, fertile inventiveness, surprising touches and mastery of the Bluegrass genre, give the band a distinctive, signature voice.

Inventive "voice-strumentalist" and southern gentleman, Lipbone Redding creates original songs that jump and jive with uncanny riffs of vocal trumpeting, booming mouth percussion, hilarious side moments and witty, soulful esoteric lyrics. Lipbone is the only person we know who sounds like a trombone and trumpet without actually playing them. He will be accompanied by bassist Jeff Eyrich.

Mojo Myles is a 12-year old multi-instrumentalist who plays Guitar, Piano and Sings well beyond his years. He's been fronting his own band since the age of 9 yrs old. He’s been referred to as "Not your Average Prodigy" playing a unique blend of Rockin' Rhythm & Soul. His performances include songs from Ray Charles, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Dr John, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash and many more. He recently played guitar in a Broadway Production; "Rockers on Broadway" at BB Kings in Times Square NYC. He also recently performed on Piano during half time show of the Knicks opening game at Madison Square Garden. Sid Bernstein (who's best known as the man who brought the Beatles to America) says Myles is "a young prodigy that will captivate and thrill an audience". Mojo Myles is a one of a kind performer -- fun for the whole family at Keegan Ales Kingston NY....Also that night we'll be holding a DANCE COMPETITION ~~ Don't miss this fun Friday night out!!

DAMIEN DEMPSEY, also special guest JESS KLEIN
Singer-Songwriter. etc.
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
DAMIEN DEMPSEY's earliest musical influences were the post-pub singsongs that his parents used to have at their home in Donaghmede (on Dublin’s Northside) when Damien was a toddler. Today, it's likely there's not a home from Dalkey to Galway where Damien Dempsey is not a household name. His unique sound reflects influences from traditional Sean-Nós to his musical heroes: Bob Marley and Elvis Presley.

JESS KLEIN's soulful, passionate voice, and lyrics that alternate between searing and heartbreakingly vulnerable, convey the kind of emotional intimacy that caused the Boston Globe to describe her as "Quite simply, one of the most gifted performers this area has produced." Her emotive, sensual Strawberry Lover was named one of the "Top Ten sexiest songs of the moment" by the NY Daily News.
