Brett Sears
Acoustic, Rock (classic)
Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe
40 West Market Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
In 2002, Brett Sears broke onto the eclectic Albany music scene as one half of the acoustic duo Southpaw. Brett and his counterpart, Aaron Brown combined lush harmonies, smooth licks, and punchy lyrics to deliver solid acoustic rock performances. After the demise of Southpaw, Brett continued to play the Albany music scene with solo performances. He also worked extensively with Sean Madden during 2006 and 2007 and continued to develop his skills as a singer/songwriter playing local coffee houses and pubs. Sean’s folk style was a big influence on Brett, who started writing more songs in that style while still maintaining his rock and roll roots. In January of 2007, Brett’s song “Be Good” was a finalist in a local songwriting contest for the City of Albany’s “Dads Make A Difference" campaign.

There is life after the Ramones, but who knew that its sound would be bluegrass? Tommy Ramone plays a mean mandolin in this new acoustic duo, singing tautly written songs with tenderness about the comforts and subtle politics of home life. —The New York Times

Tommy Ramone began his musical career as Tom Erdelyi an engineer at the Record Plant recording studios. In the musical doldrums of the 70’s he, along with the great JOHNNY, JOEY AND DEE DEE RAMONE, formed the rock group RAMONES and participated in the birth of New Wave, Punk Rock, and Alternative music. As manager, producer and drummer for the band, Tommy Ramone helped create the sound, style and ideology for what was to become modern rock. As an independent record producer Ramone has worked on recordings that include the single, Love Goes to A Building On Fire by TALKING HEADS, and the albums, Neurotica by REDD KROSS, Too Tough To Die by the RAMONES, and Tim by THE REPLACEMENTS.

"All of my songs are true stories. I've had residency in seven different states, and there's been a lot of stories. They're about all the things I've done, from sailing on tall ships to being a cowboy in Colorado, to playing for Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses in Europe and the Hells Angels." Christopher Robin's live performances ~ sharing the stage or recording with a long list of artists including Gregg Allman, Robert Cray, Lee Sklar, The Marshall Tucker Band, Del McCoury and Peter Yarrow ~ have earned him a reputation as a high-energy crowd pleaser.

Marc Von Em recently returned from his US tour with the Rob Thomas Band. Rob remarked, "I asked him to open up a 10,000 seat gig. Just him, his guitar, and his songs. He killed it!"

Marc has also shared bills with such artists as Lucy Kaplansky, Martin Sexton, Richie Havens, Glenn Tillbrook and others. His second studio recording, entitled "Free", has sold more than 6,000 copies. Marc has been described as "soulful, funky, sometimes bluesy, sometimes haunting, always sincere." One reviewer writes: "... I can genuinely say if you haven't heard or seen him live, you are only cheating yourself."

Taking the sum total of their combined years of playing and giving it up in a spirit of unrivaled musical generosity, the trio is not to be missed. Catch them before they atomize on stage, which is the eventual goal of all practitioners of SNARF. It's happening Friday at the Main Street Publick House in Philmont, NY. SUZANNE VEGA
Acoustic, Alternative, and Singer-Songwriter
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Widely regarded as one of the most brilliant songwriters of her generation, Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk-music revival of the early 1980s when, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, she sang what has been labeled contemporary folk or neo-folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has given sold-out concerts in many of the world's best-known halls. In performances devoid of outward drama that nevertheless convey deep emotion, Vega sings in a distinctive, clear vibrato-less voice that has been described as "a cool, dry sandpaper- brushed near-whisper" and as "plaintive but disarmingly powerful." In short, Suzanne Vega's work is immediately recognizable as utterly distinct and thoughtful, and as creative and musical now as it was when her voice was first heard on the radio over 20 years ago.

You can't help but get up and dance to this band!!! Jerry and the "Brothers" are one of the tightest, coolest, funky-est, baddest bands around. Whatever you do, do not miss this performance. Jerry's an accomplished singer, songwriter and bass player, influenced by the Blues and Country Music. His entree into the NYC Blues scene was by way of the now infamous Dan Lynch Blues Bar, running the Saturday afternoon jam session there. This little bar became the hub of the Blues scene in NYC. Jerry calls his time there "an education that could not be replicated." His band is comprised of a lighting-fast guitarist, killer drummer and a keyboard player who also wails on the sax.

"My mission is to write and sing great songs. A great song can touch you the way nothing else can. A great song can take complex issues and break them down so everyone can understand them." Well said, Jerry.
