If Joni Mitchell and Harry Chapin were to have had a musical "love child", it would be very possible that the child would be Stuart. Like Harry Chapin, Stuart is a vivid and precise lyrical story teller. Like Joni, he often uses a number of arcane open tunings. Combining the two you get vivid story songs with deep and often spiritual affectation and a pleasing melody to help the words sink in. Stuart has been performing for years, with no less than five songs on the legendary Fast Folk album series (now in the Smithsonian). He has also received awards from several song writing contests including (most notably) 10 from the Great American Song Contest. His song "Mom's Guitar" was covered by "Gathering Time" whose album made it to #1 on the Folk charts. Two CDs to his credit and is currently working on a third. The open mic portion of the evening is a great opportunity for newcomers and seasoned performers with a welcoming, appreciative audience.
