Veteran musicians Joe Gil (trombone), Neil Alexander (organ and keyboards) and Nadav Snir-Zelniker (drums) have put together a new group called the "Thunderhead Organ Trio". The group is taking the concept of the organ trio in a new and different direction, drawing on many different influences and styles.
The group explores the grittier, rockier side of the genre referencing groups like the original Tony Williams Lifetime and mines the jazz standard repertoire for obscure gems and deep cuts. The group will be playing original tunes, jazz standards, lost classics and rare gems. | ||

With his affable disposition, oversized glasses, signature bow tie and cascading dreads, Akie Bermiss is unabashedly a self-professed nerd. He’s also one of the most musically talented nerds we know. Akie is a pianist, singer/songwriter, composer, arranger and emerging solo artist. He kicked off his 2017 touring schedule playing keys and singing backup for the Indie band Lake Street Dive’s national concert tour, opening in Aspen for Hall & Oates. Akie is an active contributor to the Brooklyn music scene with a variety of groups including Rap sensation Soul Khan. His guttural, soulful vocals are a fusion of Donny Hathaway, Macy Gray and Tom Waits. Born into and raised by a sharecropping family in rural Georgia, vocalist and multi- instrumentalist Bill Sims Jr. is an internationally respected master of the blues. He began playing piano at age four and by fourteen he was playing professionally in a rhythm and blues group. A Warner Bros. recording artist, Mr. Sims is also an accomplished musical director and has lent his talents to many theater and film productions in New York and the United States. His film credits include Lackawanna Blues, Miss Ruby's House, American Gangster, and the recent Cadillac Records. He was also the subject of a critically acclaimed PBS documentary, An American Love Story, in 1999. Mr Sims currently lives in NYC where he mentors a new generation of blues and roots musicians. James Durst (1945 – 2016) was an international touring artist for 50 years and believed, like his mentors, Pete Seeger, Isaachar Miron and Pham Duy, in bridging cultures through music. He performed for audiences of every age in all 50 states and the District of Columbia; in more than 200 cities in 45 countries throughout the Americas, Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East and Southeast Asia; and in Russia, Azerbaijan, Japan, Korea, India and Israel. James’ widow, Madhumita will share stories about James’ life, his music and the ways he supported his fellow musicians. In 2013 James started presenting performing artists in house concerts in their living room in New Jersey. Madhumita restarted those house concerts on James’ birthday, 6 November 2016, to celebrate his life, spirit, and music with a desire to build community. Madhumita has been involved with Clearwater, Walkabout Clearwater Chorus, Tribes Hill Co-operative and recently joined the Board of the Princeton Folk Music Society. | ||
