Main Stage

 10 am  Barebones
&
Wildflowers
A contemporary acoustic ensemble with stereo flatpickers, a tactful bassist and a fiddler par excellence, all of whom conjure an excellent mix of modern and bluegrass influenced tunes.

11 am Heinzevino Jeff (dobro), Rich (guitar) & Rusty (standup bass) with old timey thru bluegrass to originals, three part harmonies, smooth, laid-back, a sound of their very own--and primo, primo, primo.

Noon Bobby

1 pm Don
Haynie
&
Sheryl
Samuel
Listening to Don's sweet melodies (especially when accompanied by Sheryl's harmonies), as they carry the images and narratives of his well-wrought lyrics, is like panning for gold and finding emeralds. [artist's website]

2 pm Brian
Gallaway
A brilliant guitar instrumentalist, Brian is percussive and melodic; at times passionate and times - despite his relentless attack- soothing.

3 pm Rande
Harris
Singer & 12 string guitarist/songwriter traditional and contemporary songs in unique style which many people love broad bases of cultural influences--former guitarist for Tony Williams & the Platters--frequent partner with Pete Seeger.

4 pm Reynolds
&
Cowan
Highland's own - a classically trained violinist - jazz to standards to fiddle tunes, then harp & hammered dulcimer--wow--also catch their workshop with McCutcheon at 2:30.

5 pm Helen
Avakian
Helen is beloved of many, not only for her vivid songs which only improve with repeated listenings, but for her intelligent guitar style, which alternates between inspiration and canniness.

6 pm Ben
Murray
&
Siobhan
Quinn
Celtic, their special arrangements of folk standards, blues & slide like Bessie Smith & Brownie McGhee--girl, your momma be scandalized she hear you sing like that--from aethereal to pure red-hot smoke. [artist's website]

7 pm Kurt
Henry
For three decades Kurt has been a favorite regional songwriter whose often restrained and serious songs contrast with a guitar style that exuberantly demonstrates an obvious joy of picking. [artist's website]

8 pm John
  McCutcheon
John McCutcheon was our first and only choice for our inaugural FolkFest; both due to his sterling qualities as a musician and performer, and for his equally sterling commitment to social activism and populism--a perfect match with the grassroots organization that HCCArts has always been. Of course the temptation for a workshop involving our own Reynolds & Cowan on hammered dulcimer & string harp was irresistible, too. [artist's website]

Adolfos Stage

 11:30 am  Hal
Lefferts
Hal is an engaging performer. Positive and energized, his original songs are accessible for all ages. Hal is also the host of the popular "Midday Show" weekdays on WKZE 98.1 FM. [artist's website]

12:30 pm   Workshop  Tunings, Pickings, Slidings - with Pat Daley, Moose, Helen Avakian.
Fingerstyle, open tunings, slide on 12 string & Hilo Hawaiian Steel Guitar, and then there's Helen --classical, flamenco, & the pure one of a kind meld that is Avakian-- there's only one like her, and that's her.

 1:30 pm  Les
Vegas
Poet, visionary, prophet, saviour of Mountains & Street Festivals, an underground legend in both rock & folk--one of the finest pure performers ever--the Big Blue Frog Himself. [artist's website]

2:30 pm   Workshop  HD's & Harps-- McCutcheon, Reynolds & Cowan.
Quite simply, the best in the world, and the best of the Valley. Mere mortals can't cope with that many strings.

 3:30 am  Eric
Erickson
Having released his debut album a year ago, Eric is currently touring in support of that CD, At Long Last. For this performance, he'll be singing songs from the album and perhaps a brand new tune or two. [artist's website]

4:30 pm   Workshop  Bluegrass-- Kurt Henry, Jeff Anzivino, John Herald.
The finest dobro (Jeff), flatpicker (Kurt), and the most unique bluegrasser in the world (John). What could be finer?

 5:30 am  John
Herald
John Herald, the Bluegrass Boy himself. is a true American original, a living national treasure. His unique vocal, instrumental and songwriting styles have been a major formative influence since the very beginning of the modern Folk Revival--folk music without John is simply unimaginable. We are truly honored to have him in our first FolkFest. [artist's website]
